While standing on line to purchase a Venice card, you’ll probably be thinking, "Why am I wasting time?" However, in this most crowded of cities, the card issued by the City Council, will help shorten a good many other lines and save a good deal of money, too. Choose among one- three- or seven-day passes to ride the vaporetto and bus lines and to gain entrance to the very clean public restrooms and to quite a few museums. The blue card is the basic one and the orange card offers additional admissions. Bars and restaurants exhibiting the card’s logo give reductions on the bill. Use the card for discounts at specified cultural events and free entrance to Lido’s beaches. In addition, in three locales, commission charges on currency exchange are cut in half.
Passes must be reserved 48 hours in advance. Go to www.selectitaly.com to order cards. The prepaid card can be picked up in Venice at six locations.
